Here's the good news. We have until May 2nd to sign up for the New York Parks Department
Commissioner's Trophy Meet scheduled for May 18th. This is our chance to try out the city's
brand new 8 lane 25 meter pool in Flushing Meadows Park. And for free! There are no entry fees.
Of ccourse, the highlight of the meet is the Commissioner's Trophy Relay (2 men, 2 women,
ages totaling 160 years). Chelsea Piers is the defending champion. Entry forms are available for download here.
If you're interested in swimming the relay and bringing the Trophy back to the Piers for another
year, speak to Coach Brian. He'll be putting together the teams.
TEAM EVENT RESULTS
We will do our best to post results as they occur. Here are the result of the One Hour Swim. Of special note Kenn Lowy's age group finish of 20th out of 187 swimmers, Freyda Faivus' 33/175 and Mark Block's 15/127. You'll also find our Mark Block and John Chambers' fine results in two recent local meets. Good show gentlemen!
USMS SHORT COURSE NATIONALS
The 2008 USMS Short Course National Championships will be held May 1-4 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin. There are approximately 1865 registered swimmers. The Texas Swim Center is rated as one of the fastest pools in the country. The event sign up is now closed, but we will be following the results and will post for all of us to have a benchmark. You can read more here.
Have you ever wondered who invented the butterfly stroke? Here is your answer.
For those of you that have never done an open water event, here are two local organizations sponsoring open water events. Once you sign up for your first event, you will be on the mailing list. Please check out the Brooklyn Bridge Swim on NYC swim. As of April 07 there were only 32 spots left. It is a great swim so lets have CP masters take those remaining spots.
CIBBOWS Grimaldo' s Mile swim on August 17 is now open. Letís also make this a CP Masters swim. It is a great swim and it is a great first if you have never done an open water event. Here is the CIBBOWS home page and the one mile swim signup.
If you are interested in some intensive tri specific training, there is a great tri training camp in Reinbeck NY in May that you should consider.
If you receive a DQ for this infraction, remember it is a freestyle event and you must comply with the Freestyle rules.
The local Metro LMSC also issued a summary of the conference. It is attached here.
This newsletter we have identified clubs from Mexico.
